Spotlight on the Community
- A Training and Coaching Program for the Frontline Professionals Who Encounter People in Need of Behavioral Health Services-
Spotlight on the Community was co-created and written by Tom McNulty, M.S. and Peter C. Hertsgaard, M.F.A. as a critical component of The Episodes Project. As such, Spotlight on the Community uses "interactive learning" techniques to assist frontline stakeholders to make better "in the field" assessments, referrals and follow up.
"I responded to a call about a 15-year-old boy who had a history of running away, drinking, and eventually coming home and continuing his disruptive behavior. The parents asked me for help. They wanted him to be safe. I suggested the local county psychiatric trauma hospital. The next day I received a call from the mother and she was not happy with me at all. She reported waiting in the psychiatric emergency room for 11 hours. When they were finally seen, she said their boy posed no threat and sent them home. I felt bad, but I did my best."

Our program is innovative and comprehensive - most importantly, it saves lives. The ability to make a fundamental assessment leads to a more appropriate referral and the likelihood of real therapeutic engagement that produces a positive outcome.
